This
is a textbook on Reinforced
Concrete Design, intended
for under-graduate and post-graduate
learning and teaching, as
well as use by practising
engineers. First published
by Tata McGraw-Hill in 1988,
the second edition was brought
out in 2003, incorporating
the recent revisions in IS
456 : 2000 and related codes.
This
book lays great emphasis on
conceptual clarity and strength
in fundamentals. The student
is encouraged to raise questions,
to relate to field experience,
to develop a ‘structural
sense’, to appreciate
proper ‘documentation’
and ‘detailing’,
to analyse results and to
synthesize knowledge. A set
of stimulating ‘review
questions’ is posed
at the end of each chapter,
in addition to a large number
of illustrative worked examples.
An exhaustive set of problems
(with answers for ‘analysis’
type problems) is also included
at the end of each chapter.
Extensive chapter-wise references
are also listed, to enable
the research-minded reader
to pursue further study.
